In line with their social mission to inspire young football enthusiasts in the country, PUMA Football Academy Malaysia recently conducted their very first football coaching clinic in the state of Penang.
The session, which was held at SMK Permatang Tok Jaya, received a highly positive turnout with more than 90 participants attending the training.
Reiterating PUMA’s support towards local grassroots football development, Gabriel Yap, Senior Head of Marketing, South East Asia, mentioned that PUMA hopes to expand the outreach of its football academy by going on a nationwide tour organising free football coaching sessions for the youngsters who are passionate about the beautiful game.
“We would like to reach out to as many young and aspiring footballers as possible and provide them with opportunities to learn from professionals,”
“The Penang training session marks the start of an exciting journey for us as we continue searching for new ways to benefit more youngsters across the country,” said Gabriel.
The coaching session was also attended by two players from the national team and the Penang Football Association, K. Reuben and Yong Koung Yong. It was a pleasant surprise for the young football fans as both PUMA-sponsored players shared some valuable insights about the game and joined in to train with the participants.
Speaking about the need for discipline and determination among aspiring footballers, K. Reuben mentioned that financial difficulties should never be a barrier for youngsters to explore their full potential.
“Quality training and practice is always key to hone your football skills but it must all start from within. I know that with the right character and burning desire to succeed, nothing can stop you from achieving your goals and ambitions,” said Reuben.
Starting out in Kuala Lumpur and the Klang Valley, the academy has since gone on to conduct regular training sessions by requests and through collaborations with schools.
PUMA will be going on a nationwide tour to organise football coaching clinics at various locations across the central, northern and southern regions of Malaysia.
