The spirit of true sportsmanship and triumph filled the air as ASICS Badminton Championship 2017 (ABC 2017) drew to a climatic close this weekend, after a pulsating grand finale featuring the best badminton action in Malaysia. Badminton fans and sports enthusiasts were treated to high-octane on-court action as finalists of ABC 2017 ‘smashed-it-out’ at Vanity Atrium, Sunway Velocity Shopping Mall.

The annual badminton championship was organized for the third consecutive year by ASICS, a true sports performance brand. Following preliminary round competition held from 13 to 14 October in Sports Affairs, Cheras and a grueling round of knock-out matches, 22 individuals and teams advanced to Finals.

ABC 2017 Grand Final was officiated by Youth & Sports Minister YB Encik Khairy Jamaluddin. “It is great to see brands like ASICS coming forward to support ‘Hari Sukan Negara’. Through ‘Hari Sukan Negara’, we aim to promote a healthy lifestyle among Malaysians. The ASICS Badminton Championships 2017 has definitely established itself as one of the leading amateur badminton championships today. It is an excellent platform both for getting people active and nurturing new talents as we strive to take Malaysian badminton to greater heights,” said YB Khairy Jamaluddin at the opening ceremony of ASICS Badminton Championships 2017 Grand Final.

“ASICS Badminton Championship 2017 has once again delivered an unforgettable experience to all athletes, fans, and the greater badminton community. Apart from number of players, the quality of competition has also improved and this bodes well with the future of badminton sport for Malaysia,” said Kenji Oh, ASICS Asia Marketing Director. “We are confident ASICS Badminton Championships will continue to grow in stature and prestige. ASICS aims to inspire more Malaysians to actively engage in sporting activities and help Malaysia realize its goal of becoming a Sporting Nation by 2020.”

During run-up and in-between matches at ABC Finals 2017, enthusiastic badminton fans from the gallery were given a rare opportunity to spar with former All-England Men’s champion Hafiz Hashim, former Thomas Cup player Liew Darren and national women’s player Sylvia Kavita Kumares. Finalists of ABC 2017 stand to win ASICS vouchers, products and cash prizes with a combined value in excess of RM25,000.
