The “art of eight limbs” practitioner goes head-to-head against hometown hero Nguyen “NO.1″ Tran Duy Nhat in a three-round ONE Super Series Flyweight Muay Thai duel.
With pride in his voice, the Kelantan native admits he is more than ready to give it his best shot in a territory unknown to him.
“I’ve never been to Vietnam, so to be selected to compete there is a big deal for me,” the 24-year-old shared.
“I’m thankful for the chance to test myself against a great opponent, and may the best man win. Of course, I hope that I will leave as the winner in Vietnam.”
His match in ONE Championship’s first outing in Vietnam will be his second time competing at The Home of Martial Arts.
Although he had a debut to forget against Chinese sensation Han Zi Hao in November 2018, the Malaysian athlete is certain that he will correct his mistakes from the past.
Azwan described this as potentially a career-defining moment, should he leave the ring with another win in his record.
“This match is important to me as I lost during my previous appearance in ONE,” the Kuda Merah Muay Thai Subang standout said.
“My coaches have prepped me up well for this bout, and we’ve been working on various techniques to ensure I get the win this time.”
Azwan, a OneSongchai S1 Champion, is no stranger to competing on the international scene, having turned professional in Bangkok while he was only 20 years old.
He admits the pressure will be on his side, but he wants to use it to fuel him to a 36th career victory.
The spectacle – ONE’s first-ever all-ONE Super Series card – will be headlined by two of the best strikers on the planet.
