Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, or BJJ for short, is rapidly becoming a global phenomenon.

Several of Malaysia’s ONE Championship athletes possess a great understanding of the sport and it’s no surprise that it is rapidly growing in the country through tournaments such as Copa Da Malasia Grappling, the largest BJJ tournament in the entire nation.

Want to give it a try? Here are five BJJ gyms in the Klang Valley where you can try “the gentle art.”

#1 Monarchy MMA

The well-renowned gym located in Bangsar and Jalan Raja Chulan, Kuala Lumpur, has produced some of the finest athletes in the local mixed martial arts and BJJ scene.

Students can expect full guidance from Team Buda Jiu-Jitsu black belt Bruno Barbosa, with at least five classes a week at both branches.

Not too sure? Just ask the cheerful Agilan Thani for his thoughts!

#2 Marcos Escobar Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Founded and led by fourth-degree black belt Marcos Escobar, this academy has six different clubs in the Klang Valley.

Those locations are in Taman Tun Dr. Ismail, Kota Damansara, Mont Kiara, Kelana Jaya, Puchong, and Kepong.

Beginners can expect authentic practice as well as being coached by some of the best in the industry.

#3 Crazy Monkey Defense

Located in the heart of Bangsar, this gym was founded on the principle that they don’t just teach students how to compete.

Instead, they combine functional martial skills and life-performance skills for an optimal holistic approach in martial arts.

With at least three classes throughout the week, a newbie could certainly expect a fulfilling start to their BJJ journey.

#4 Infinity Martial Arts

Picking up BJJ will not only equip an individual with self-defense skills, but also martial values such as honor, humility, and integrity.

The sport was founded upon these values and principles, which makes it a great addition in anyone’s life, especially in children.

Infinity emphasizes this, and the gym offers various classes that cater to adults and youngsters of different age groups.

With two outlets in the Klang Valley — in Cheras and Kajang — Malaysians can expect some of the best BJJ classes under the wings of Ky Jeffers, who trained Malaysia’s AJ “Pyro” Lias Mansor.

#5 Pure Jiu-Jitsu

This BJJ gym located in the main hub of Subang Jaya, SS15, is the perfect spot for everyone in the township to give the martial art a chance.

Similar to the others on this list, Pure Jiu-Jitsu is an all-rounded gym that provides basic classes and specialized ones like their women-only BJJ sessions.

Equipped with the basic necessities as well as keeping cleanliness a top priority, this is a gym that anyone from any level or background can join.
